Policeman caught up in laptop theft mystery

Just days after graduating from the National Police College of Jamaica, a newly minted policeman is being investigated in a case where a laptop was stolen.

Reports are that the computer was stolen after a car belonging to a software developer was broken into last Saturday.

The policeman graduated last Friday.

After discovering the item was missing, the owner of the laptop tracked the device to a repair shop located on Orange Street, in downtown Kingston.

Accompanied by police, the owner went to the establishment and shortly after, the 22-year-old lawman, who had left the laptop at the shop, was held upon his return.

But according to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the policeman has not been charged.

The CCU said a file is being prepared to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling as to whether he will face prosecution.

“The allegations made against him are that he received stolen goods,” a representative of the CCU said.
