Daddy1 to link with UK fans virtually | Entertainment

Dancehall artiste Daddy1 was set to make his debut appearance in the UK last year but the COVID-19 pandemic placed the world under lockdown.

He told THE STAR that he immediately started seeking out other ways to link with his fans there and has now found that avenue via BBC 1Xtra’s Global Shutdown hosted by DJ Kenny Allstar.

“Everyone knows if you want to reach your fans in the UK as a dancehall artiste, BBC 1Xtra is the platform and the show with DJ Kenny Allstar was the perfect opportunity for me,” Daddy1 said. “It was a great experience because I have a lot of fans in the UK that I have been wanting to reach out to forever and this interview gave me that chance. I have never been to the UK before and was supposed to go last year but because of COVID nuh travelling never gwaan, so me getting this chance was a really good chance for me to show the fans what I am really capable of,” he said. DJ Kenny Allstar’s Global Shutdown with Daddy1 is scheduled to be aired on April 2.

Global Shutdown is produced in three parts, The freestyle, a visual cypher (shot by Jamaican cinematographer Damaniac) and an interview. Daddy1’s appearance would mark the first by a Jamaican dancehall artiste. In a statement sent to THE STAR, DJ Kenny Allstar said as one of the “freshest and exciting dancehall trap artistes coming out of Jamaica”, inviting the BroGad deejay on the show was a “no brainer”.

Daddy1 said that it was an honour being the first artiste to grace the Global Shutdown stage and says he is hoping to gain an even larger fan base from the performance.

“Daddy1 is a positive artiste, a versatile artiste and dem a go see dat in the interview. They are going to hear all sides of me in the freestyle and they’re going to enjoy it. I am hoping that with this appearance I can put more people on to Daddy1 music. As a dancehall trap artiste, I don’t just want to be known in Jamaica. I want the world to know Daddy1,” he said.

The entertainer says he is now promoting the singles Good Life and Life Still A Keep. He also revealed that after dropping his 1 Bro Gad EP last June, he has been working on a full- length album T.R.A.P. The meaning of ‘T.R.A.P’ is Take Risks And Prosper. “Each song on the album will represent an aspect of my career and will speak to me of course taking risks to get to where I want,” he said.
