Dancehall artiste Laden has released what some fans consider the semi-autobiographical tone of his latest track, Minor Setback, which seems to reference his life and incarceration.
The single was released on the ‘Believe’ rhythm by Attomatic Records last week. On the track, Laden sings ” Instead of up, mi name dem carry roun, dem carry down/still ah carry on/pay fi anything mi waan but mi ah beg yu guide me Lord.”
The lyrics ring true, given his current incarceration. Last December, he was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for illegal possession of a firearm and 18 months for the illegal possession of ammunition. Both sentences will run concurrently. Laden, given name Okeefe Aarons, may apply for parole after one year.
The song was released alongside visuals of a shirtless Laden deejaying, while seated on a bike, as he delivers a message for the youth who have made a mistake or encountered an obstacle.
Laden also sings: ” Never lost my way on this lonely journey/but wah ‘mount ah pain mi feel, mi think mi gonna need surgery/still have a lot to do, dem caan stop me, that impossible/mi have the Russian K/the model new/the amount of fight me fight, yu see the battle wounds.”
