Negril’s Ultra Violet lights up Miami | Entertainment

The Sand Castle entertainment outfit held its first staging of the widely popular Ultra Violet (UV) party outside of Jamaica on Saturday, April 17. The ultra-classy, fashionable event unfolded in Miami, Florida under the theme, ‘Miami Vice Episode’ and drew partygoers from Florida’s party scene and the Jamaican diaspora.

Ultra Violet is normally held in Negril on New Year’s Eve but due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the promoters decided to make the flight to the United States.

“We have had 11 editions there. This is the first time its being held outside of Jamaica; we have always wanted to branch out internationally, but the COVID restrictions motivated us to finally try,” said Robert Porter, director, Sand Castle.

There has been a ban on the staging of entertainment events in Jamaica for nearly a year, as the Government tries to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus that has so far claimed 784 lives on the island, and infected at least 45,850 persons.

Porter is among the party promoters that have sought to keep their events alive by taking it to areas where entertainment events are welcomed.

“It’s a fashion party and we decided to keep that theme for the Florida event. The vibe at our event is just different, we have our DJs play different genres of music and we encourage a meet and greet kind of energy in the space. We had DJ Ricky Platinum, DJ Nicco, Smoke Infinity and YM Entertainment and the decor was on point,” the Ultra Violet director said.

“We are looking to do another edition, either summer time or October this year, in Florida again,” Porter added.

He also said that he is looking forward to when they can once again stage events in Jamaica.

“The government of Jamaica needs to allow events to be held, once things are in place to stop the spread of the virus as this a critical area for rebuilding the economy. Entertainment is one of our main industries for revenues through which our people get to make money,” Porter said.
