PM Andrew Holness thanks his CARICOM colleagues

“I want to thank my CARICOM colleagues, Prime Minister Mottley, Prime Minister Mitchell, Prime Minister Browne, and President Ali, as well as Secretary General Carla Barnett and our partners from the IFC, IDB, and World Bank for standing with Jamaica.

The devastation is immense: 150,000 homes destroyed, 900,000 Jamaicans affected, and an estimated 8 billion U.S. dollars in physical damage. Tourism, agriculture, and revenues have also been hit hard. Yet Jamaica is not defeated. Our people are resilient, and we will rebuild stronger.

Relief is already underway; the Guyanese Defence Force will restore 200 roofs, the JDF is coordinating debris removal and distribution of tarps, and modular homes are being procured for affected communities.

This crisis is also an opportunity, to rebuild better, to strengthen our infrastructure, and to ensure equity and transparency in recovery.” Dr. Andrew Holness
