“Jamaica welcomes the support of our regional partners following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, a storm that, except for COVID-19, may be described as the disaster of the century.

The scale of destruction is unlike anything we have seen in decades. Entire communities along the storm’s path were flattened, trees snapped like twigs, and the once-green Cockpit Country now bears a haunting, winter-like appearance. Yet, amid this devastation, the resilience of our people shines through, families giving thanks for life, even after losing everything.

The Government is fully aware that frustration can rise when hope meets hardship, when there is no water, power, food, or shelter. That is why our focus is on coordination, speed, and sustainability.
