Producer tunes in to Tommy Lee Sparta’s ‘happy side’ | Entertainment

It is quite easy to understand why Junior ‘Chambah’ Stevens is one of the producers who is partially responsible for the happy side of the music that emanates from Goth dancehall artiste, Tommy Lee Sparta.

Stevens, simply put, is sunshine. He wears a smile that lights up his entire being and this natural affinity with goodness is translated into his music.

“Tommy is a man who like dark music, but him hear my happy beats and like them,” Stevens told THE STAR, adding that that is not as contradictory as it may sound.

“A lot of people have a dark side and a bright side, like positive and negative. So, on this new album, Transition, Tommy explores all sides of his personality. It is a double CD with Side ‘A’ bright Side ‘B’ speaking about the reality of life,” Stevens said.

He described the deejay as “one of the most jovial artistes you could ever meet”, and pointed out that it is his ability to inject passion in all his recordings that puts the Blessings singer in a different league.

“Him record with passion. If Tommy a do bad man song him a mek it feel like a bad man song. Yuh can feel it coming through the speakers and it’s the same with a party track. Of course, I enjoy working with the artiste, but the only problem is if him tell yuh that he will be at the studio today, yuh have to wait two days on him. But when him turn up and start to record, it was well worth the wait,” shared Stevens, who has been producing songs for him for seven years.

The songs on Transition which are credited to Stevens and his business partner, Dean Barnett, are Life of A Spartan Soldier; Talk of the Town, a collaboration with Stylo G; Superstar and Deal Wid Me Hard, their only song on the B side.

Although the entertainer is now behind bars, Stevens is confident that he is pleased with the project.
