Slash Ladat mourns loss of his dad | Entertainment
Dancehall artiste Dwayne Knight, aka ‘Slash Ladat’, is mourning the loss of his mentor and father Stephen Knight, who died on April 12.
He said that his father’s death has caused a vacuum in his life; however, the Portmore-based artiste soldiers on.
“It wasn’t easy losing my dad. It’s a very difficult and emotional time for me, but I have to stand strong and firm to be there for my mother and the rest of my family,” he said.
Slash Ladat said that his father is his hero and had transformed him into the man he has become.
“I will always remember my dad as a hard-working person, and I look up to my father as my hero. My father always said that he is proud of me and the man that I’ve become, so his death will not cause me to give up in life, but to continue to make my father proud. So I will work harder to make it in the music business.”
This is not the first life-changing incident for the artiste, as 19 years ago he lost his brother, also in April.
On April 10, 2002, his brother Terrence Knight died at age 20. But the loss deepened Slash Ladat’s will to pursue music.
