Still Yet releases new Shawn Storm album | Entertainment
Dancehall producer Still Yet has just released a new album titled Freedom Street for recording artiste Shawn Storm.
The compilation is Still Yet’s first full-length project as a producer. Speaking with THE WEEKEND STAR recently, Still Yet said the compilation would provide a different perspective on the persona behind Shaw Storm who has been incarcerated since 2011.
The producer, who is Shaw Storm’s cousin, has been working with the entertainer in a professional capacity for a number of years. He says he has witnessed first-hand how the deejay’s thought process has matured and says that growth has been seeping through his music.
“The topics covered on each track vary and I really think it will resonate well with the fans,” Still Yet said. “Shawn has a few gangster songs on it but his biggest hits are positive. It is all about life, the justice system, love, unity and positive energy and is the type of content that people are supposed to be listening to, abiding and living by. It’s all about carrying ourselves like kings and queens and what it means to be black.” Still Yet says that in putting the compilation together, his main focus was expanding not just the artiste’s horizons but also his.
“As a producer, you have to create a catalogue so that you can always have new music for the world so that you keep selling records. We have increased our fan base since COVID hit and we have found out that people really want positive material. When you find a niche market, you have to just give them the kind of music they want and relish in the support,” he said. “That’s exactly what we intend to do with this project. We believe it will be a huge success.”
Freedom Street has 10 tracks and was released under Kwashana Records. The album also features artistes like Chronic Law, Tommy Lee Sparta and Sikka Rhymes.
